Student wins Citizenship award

On Tuesday, Jan. 21, Azumi Murphy received the Gilbert Town Council Citizenship Award. The award was presented to Azumi at the Gilbert Council Chambers by Gilbert Mayor Jenn Daniels. Azumi is from District 7 and resides in Gilbert, and her parents are Tyrone, and Vika Murphy.

 

Azumi currently attends Greenfield Middle School and was nominated by three of her teachers for consideration of the award from December 2019. Ms. Morris, Ms. Banuelos, and Ms. Krick nominated her for the award. At school, Azumi actively participates in several clubs and extracurricular activities, including H.E.R. (Heartfelt+ Equally Respected) Story Club and S.H.O. (Students Helping Others) Club, where students plan fun activities with children with special needs. 

 

Outside of school, Azumi also volunteers with the Caring House, Feed My Starving Children, and St. Mary’s Food Bank. Azumi is planning to attend Arizona State University and pursuing a career field where she can help others in the future.
