Bands compete in annual battle

Chicken scratch bands competed during the Mul-Chu-Tha weekend under the newly added tent at the Sacaton fairgrounds. The battle of the bands was held March 7-8, where competing bands played warm up songs and were judged on three competition songs in the styles of chote, waila, and cumbia.  The battle of the bands was also broadcasted live on the O’odham Hewel Ni’ok radio station.

1st place Project Kumbia 

2nd place Two Rivers

3rd place D-Faktion Nyne

 

Battle of the Bands also featured a dance contest held on Sunday night. Dance competition winners are: 

Chote Competition

1st place Archie Miguel and Doreen Cooper

3rd place Sunigh Antone and Tyloria Antone

 

Waila Competition

1st place Juan Bustamante and Anaya Enos

2nd place Alexander Bustamante and Antonia Bustamante

Cumbia Competition

1st place Manuel Wickey

2nd place Anya Enos
