The Gila River Fire Department hosted a review meeting at Wild Horse Pass Hotel & Casino on Sept. 23., which was attended by Gov. Stephen Roe Lewis and Lt. Gov. Robert Stone, and was the first one held during Chief Kathy Garcia’s leadership of the department.

“It’s been busy, coming in at the very end of the fiscal year, approving all the budgets that we can, to make sure our trucks are running, equipment is ordered and hiring new personnel,” said Garcia.

She emphasized the importance of the profession in taking care of one another, and the safety of the Community. Garcia said it's making sure all personnel understand their role as firefighters and pointing out anything that needs adjustments, regarding performance.

At the overview meeting, Garcia recognized her personnel for their years of service and performance on the job. Lt. Gov. Robert Stone was on-hand to present the awards to personnel, along with Garcia and Greg Mitchem GRFD Deputy Chief.
