After several years of dealing with water main leaks, potholes in the middle of the road, and shattered pavement, the Community’s Department of Transportation (DOT) began repaving the village of Snaketown in District 4 on June 2. This project, which had been proposed years ago, is now a reality thanks to the efforts of the Gila River Indian Community strategic plan and the DOT.
Because of this, residents will soon have better water lines and much improved paving for driving safety.
Snaketown residents have been closely following the project’s progress. Since the early morning hours, heavy equipment teams have been diligently working, focusing on one lane at a time to minimize disruptions and facilitate access for resident’s vehicles and other Community vehicles.
The Community is planning for more efficient traffic and transportation control in the future as part of this new strategic plan. These efforts are not limited to improving the roads; they encompass multiple initiatives aimed at building a better future for our Community, a plan that has been under development for years.
A modern and well maintained roads system not only enhance the quality of life for all Community Members, but also enables more efficient transportation, improves access to essential and emergency services, and reduces vehicles wear and tear. As our roads improve, it ensure a prosperous, secure, and culturally rich future for generations to come.
More importantly, these improvements ensure the safety of our elders, youth, and families who rely on well-functioning roads to access vital services such as health, education and cultural activities. Without a doubt, this will lead to a smoother flow of vehicles and more efficient access for everyone.
