Gov. Lewis Signs Proclamation for EMS Week

Gov. Stephen Roe Lewis honored the 51st anniversary of National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week with a proclamation for the Gila River Indian Community, declaring the week of May 18-24, 2025 as EMS Week. This year’s EMS theme is “We care. For Everyone.”
During EMS week, the Gila River Emergency Medical Services held a staff meeting and training at the Shelde Building, where Gov. Lewis presented and signed the proclamation.
“It’s great that the Community recognizes the EMS and all the staff for what they do for the community, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, taking care of the sick and injured within the Community boundaries,” said Gila River EMS Chief Kurt Rainbolt.
Chief Rainbolt, Myron Schurz, Chairman for Gila River Health Care Board of Directors, and Gila River EMS staff were present at the proclamation signing.
Gov. Lewis highlighted the Sacaton 4th grade students aspirations and dream jobs. “These 4th graders want to become first responders, they want to become EMS, they want to become EMT, they want to become paramedics and firefighters,”said Gov. Lewis.
On behalf of the Gila River Care Health, Schurz publicly recognized the important and crucial role of every EMS staff, “We want to recognize the efforts that you all have brought forth for the Community. We also appreciate and recognize what you do day to day, not just one week out of the year.”
Chief Kurt Rainbolt provided the opening remarks which was followed by department reports. There were two breakout session trainings and wellness program. BBQ lunch was provided. EMS honor guard posted the colors. EMS team building activity was conducted through Kahoot online. Deputy Chief Kevin Knight provided the EMS employee/committee awards and recognitions.
