GRIN Welcomes Newsperson
The Gila River Indian News hires Jeston Morris for the Newsperson position.
“I am very excited about my new position at The GRIN,” Morris said.
Morris, who is a member of the Navajo Nation, served in the United States Marine Corps as a Communication Center Operator. His tour of duties includes Head Quarter Battalion at Camp Butler, Ninth Communication Battalion and 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, both at Camp Pendleton.
“I am proud to serve my country. My uncle was a Navajo Code Talker. He inspired me to join the military,” said Morris.
He earned his college degrees from Arizona State University. His degrees include a Bachelor of Art in Elementary Education, Masters of Art in Curriculum and Instruction, and a doctorate in Applied Linguistics.
“My parents valued college education. That is the reason why I pursed my college degrees after my military career,” Morris said.
Morris grew up in Aneth, UT on the Navajo reservation near Four Corners. Navajo is his first language. He acquired English as a second language in boarding school. His clans are Folded Arms and Edge Water. He attended boarding school but he eventually transferred to public school. His hobbies include photography, hiking, and traveling. He has a passion for Native languages and cultures.
“I am excited about my new position and working with my colleagues at The GRIN. I look forward to serving the Gila River Indian Community,” Morris said.
