The District 3 Senior Citizens Organization (SCO) delivered the Easter baskets to the residents of The Caring House on April 17.
According to Cathy Jackson, Lead Organizer of the Easter basket project, District 3 SCO consists of members who are 55 plus. “Some of our members are homebound for health reasons and meals are delivered to them. Our seniors gather at District 3 Elder Center on a daily basis for meals, activities and projects,” said Jackson. “One of our projects was the Easter baskets.”
In the past, District 3 SCO delivered Easter baskets to children at the Early Education Center. However, this year, they decided to deliver baskets to the residents of The Caring House.
“They rarely get visitors, no one stops by to say hello and have a conversation with them. That is the reason for our decision. In fact, many of us have family member staying there,” said Jackson.
Jackson’s team arrived at The Caring House at 10 a.m. The team includes Francine Siweyumptewa, Gloria Osife and Carol Stewart. They placed all the baskets in the cart and rolled it inside.
“I especially asked Carol to come with us because she can speak O’otham. During our delivery visit, Carol spoke with a resident in O’otham. The resident was rejoiced to hear and speak the O’otham,” said Jackson.
Jackson mentioned that they did the Easter basket project out of the goodness of their hearts. They spread God’s love especially during Easter and their message is the residents of The Caring House are not forgotten; they are truly treasured and loved especially during Easter.
