GLENDALE, Ariz. Nineteen youths participated in the Arizona Cardinals Flag Football Experience at State Farm Stadium ahead of the team’s home opener against the Carolina Panthers (27-22) on Sunday, Sept. 14.

Gila River Resorts & Casinos (GRRC), in partnership with the Cardinals, sponsored the youth to attend the clinic. They were accompanied by staff from Gila River’s Tribal Recreation & Wellness Department. In addition to the clinic, participants had the opportunity to attend the game and meet former Cardinals wide receiver Early Doucet, who played in the 2009 Super Bowl.

“The kids always look forward to these outings where they get a chance to just play,” said Manuel Hernandez, public relations coordinator for Gila River Resorts  & Casinos. “The flag football clinic is a learning experience where they can ask questions, get tips, and compete with one another,”

The clinic, hosted by A2Z Sports Training and Pro Athletes Direct, offers a unique opportunity for youth to play just steps away from where the pros compete, hours before kickoff. Activities include stretching, offensive and defensive drills for youth of all ages and skill levels, and exercises that emphasize teamwork.

“This is one of the many Cardinals kids’ camps that we host each year,” said Harold Bently III, operations manager for Pro Athletes Direct. “Kids come out, have a good time, enjoy themselves. It’s not super competitive, but we try to make it a friendly for environment for all kids.” Hernandez added, “These types of events allow the youth to create lasting memories and hopefully motivates them to continue a path of health-conscious activities. The Casino’s relationship with the Arizona Cardinals allows us to bring Kids Camps directly to the community, promoting and reinforcing healthy, active lifestyles.”
