The Success of Adult Education in Gila River

The FACE (Family and Child Education) National Training Event, held April 21–23 in Oklahoma, brought together FACE programs from across the nation. This annual event provides an opportunity for collaboration, professional development, and the sharing of best practices to better serve Indigenous communities.

 

On Thursday, April 23rd, at the Oklahoma National Training Event, the Gila Crossing FACE Program was honored with the Adult Education Site of the Year award, recognizing the program’s outstanding service and impact.

 

As part of this recognition, Ms. Amiee Mestaz was acknowledged for her long-standing service as Adult Education Teacher and Coordinator. Throughout her 21 years of dedication, Ms. Mestaz has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to supporting families and strengthening the community through her hard work.

 

Her professionalism, compassion, and leadership have made a lasting impact on her students. Whether guiding individuals through GED preparation or supporting their pursuit of higher education, she consistently promotes a positive, empowering learning environment. Students often commend her for her encouragement, expertise, and unwavering support.

 

The Gila Crossing FACE Program expressed its appreciation to Ms. Mestaz for her continued dedication, hard work, and commitment to supporting students and families of Gila River, as well as for the lasting and positive difference she makes in the lives of those she serves.
